History is not just a list of facts, names, and events. It is a story with causes, effects, and different perspectives and points of view.
The purpose of this activity is to help students understand how placing history events in context becomes more meaningful. It is a great way to introduce the APUSH historical thinking skill of context.
First students will view an example of how meaning changes when words are taken out of context. Then, a model activity will be done with students before they are broken into learning pairs. Finally, students will demonstrate their understanding of the activity with a practice activity.
