Small group brainstorming (20 min):
Count the class into groups of 4 of mixed genders. Pass out the “Relationship advantages and disadvantages brainstorming worksheet” to each of the students. Tell the students they will be handing it in at the end of class for a grade. For this activity, the students will have to brainstorm different advantages and disadvantages of being in a steady relationship. Once the class is complete ask each group what some of their answers were. Put some of their answers on the bored so the whole class can see. Go over why they might be advantages or disadvantages of being in a relationship. When talking about the advantages and disadvantages tell the students to copy any examples you mention that are important if they don’t have them written down already.
Group discussion (15 min):
Have the class split up into two separate sides. One side will represent the students that like steady relationships and enjoy of its advantages. The other side will represent the students who don’t like being in relationships. Have each group come up with 5 reasons of why they prefer to be in a relationship or why they don’t prefer to be in a relationship. Have the 2 side’s debate. Explain to the class if things get too loud or out of hand we will immediately stop. Discuss as a class the benefits and pitfalls of each.
