Product Description
This activity hits standard CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.8.7:
Analyze the extent to which a filmed or live production of a story or drama stays faithful to or departs from the text or script, evaluating the choices made by the director or actors.

It usually takes us 2-3 days to read the story, 1 day to watch and discuss the movie, and 1 day to complete this activity.

The full text of this story is available in many places online, including Project Gutenberg. It is also included in the Grade 8 Pearson Literature Textbook.

There are several adaptations of the film (this activity works for all of them) but my students preferred the black and white 1949 version.
It can be found on YouTube:

For your lower level or reluctant readers, the full audio version is also available on YouTube and www.pearsonsuccessnet.com.

I used this to wrap up a short unit on detective fiction, and my students really enjoyed it!

Thanks for visiting Ms. Eddington in the Middle!
