Project-based unit that requires students to independently read an assortment of literature related to the topic of adventures and journeys while working in a cooperative group to create several real world tasks. As students work on their Adventures and Journeys project, they should alternately read and study the following literary works related to journeys and adventures: “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, “Journey” by Joyce Carol Oates, “The Journey” by Mary Oliver, “New Directions” by Maya Angelou, and “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost. Tasks include: creating a company logo and slogan, creating a brochure, and compiling a vacation package that includes travel, lodging, and dining. Student groups ultimately deliver an oral presentation with a PowerPoint slideshow to showcase their vacation package.The winning group receives recognition and a small prize.
