This handout can be used when viewing any video commercial. When you've taught students about argumentative/persuasive appeals (logos, pathos, ethos), help them read/watch commercials with a critical eye. Introduce how various components in an advertisement work together to effectively persuade an audience/consumer to do/buy something.

*The handout does NOT come with instructions for completion- you will need to guide your students through its use.*

The graphic organizer focuses on 5 key components of a commercial:
- visual imagery
- auditory imagery
- audience
- text (or advertisement copy)
- slogan

Each component has a few key words that signal students what to look for. I also included the three types of appeals (logos, pathos, and ethos) to prompt the students to analyze HOW each component of the advertisement builds/supports the three appeals. (For example, how does the music build pathos? How does the text build logos?)
