Use the first page (the chart) as an in class group work assignment after discussing audience, implied messages and persuasive techniques!
You should have a copy of this chart either for each student or one per group of students. You will also need to supplement your own ads for the student to work with. You may choose to bring in a few magazines that you deem appropriate and allow the groups to choose their own ads or you can find some popular advertisements and put them into a PowerPoint presentation for the class to work on all together.
Students will need to look at the ads and decide what’s being sold, the target audience, implied message and persuasive technique(s) being used. They will fill in their chart and the groups can share to see if there are any differing opinions.
After this group work, students can be given the 2nd sheet in this document which is an independent assignment that requires them to create their own ad with specific criteria given to them.
