Students create an advertisement for an invention from between 1865-1900 during a unit on Industry and Labor. I start a conversation at the end of class one day about inventions and the students invariably debate the most important inventions of all time, and then I focus the students on this particular time period. The students then have a library research day the next day to research various inventions for the time period, pick one, and obtain all the pertinent information (outlined in the handout), and the next day they make and turn in their advertisements in class. The handout includes a sample of inventions the students can choose from. A points distribution is included.
