Students need an empty cereal box and some creativity to produce this fun book report. Students pretend that they have been recruited by a popular cereal company to advertise a book since literacy is so important. They need their expertise! Students can pick to advertise a fiction or nonfiction text. Some standards include RI.5.2, RI.5.3, and RI.5.5 if they choose nonfiction. If they choose fiction, students will demonstrate what they have learned about signposts from the book called Notice and Note: Strategies for Close Reading by Kylene Beers and Robert E Probst. Students will also be applying writing standards. This document includes instructions for students, a checklist for students, and rubric.
