After ten years of teaching, graduate classes, serving on various district committees, mentoring new teachers and student teachers I have come up with this six-page list of suggestions for any new teacher. They are NOT about how to create lessons or how teach. These are no-nonsense tips about how to get a job, keep a job, excel at your job and develop good professional relationships along the way. I have been told by people I have mentored that this list has been extremely helpful and that is why I thought to post it here. This is the advice that new teachers really need to know.
*Disclaimer….these are all just my opinions based on my experiences. You will have to find out what works for you. Certain tests that I reference in this document are specific to Pennsylvania. Please substitute the names for your own state exams where needed.
