This is a 13 slide presentation that reviews some biographical information of Aesop, the definition of theme and character traits, and examines these in two of his fables. There are links to view two fables on YouTube (The Tortoise and the Hare and The Farmer and His Sons). The presentation concludes with directions for a three-part jigsaw in which students will read different fables that feature one of four different animals (fox, wolf, mouse, lion). The focus is analyzing the fable for its theme, and analyzing the characters for their traits. The worksheets that go along with the presentation and the jigsaw are also available for download. Students can access his other fables by doing a quick search of the internet. I reference the "readwritethink.org" character trait list, which can also be accessed using a quick internet search.
