This fables readers' theater resource includes printable scripts and character crowns for 10 of Aesop's fables. Support students’ understanding of fables in a fun and engaging format while also supporting their growth in reading fluency and vocabulary acquisition!
This resource includes two group direction page options for class display, as well as three to five part readers theater scripts and character crowns for: The Ants & The Grasshopper, The City Mouse & The Country Mouse, The Hare & The Tortoise, The Lion & The Mouse, The Shepherd Boy & The Wolf, The Ant & The Dove, The Fox & The Crow, The North Wind & The Sun, Belling the Cat, and The Fox & The Stork
For each fable, a master readers theater script is included as well as a copy of the script with each actor’s role highlighted. Just print and go!
All scripts are written at a second or third grade level. I have chosen to preserve some of the more challenging vocabulary found in the older versions of the fables in order to encourage discussion among my students about the meanings of the words.
Character crowns are also included. These can be printed on card stock, colored by students, and stapled to a sentence strip to create a wearable headband.
When fables are acted in small groups, students gain valuable group work skills and public speaking skills and become resident experts on the fable they perform. They also can be a great addition to your guided reading groups.
In my own classroom, I introduce these fables using these readers theater plays and go on to look at some of the fables in more depth with my Aesop's Fables Close Reading and Literacy Activities
