This is the eleventh in a series of PowerPoints I have done for a World History Course. It covers African Empires (Sub-Saharan Africa) from the Kingdom of Kush to the Songhai Empire. Some topics include just how Big is Africa?, the kingdoms of Kush and Aksum, the Bantu Migrations, Eastern Coastal Trading Cities, Great Zimbabwe, The Gold for Salt Trade, Mansa Musa and Mali, etc. I make my PowerPoints light on words, because I elaborate on them myself. I have tried to make them as aesthetically pleasing as possible, so students will enjoy the presentation as much as they can. NOTE: The glowing words are the really important things on a slide that I definitely want my students to remember! I usually break the PowerPoints up when I use them, into multiple days. (Ex. I'll teach a couple of slides then do an activity. I'll pick back up the next day.) You should feel free to use these as template. Edit them to your satisfaction, but I feel these are great tools and springboards! Strickland Presentations
NOTE On this PowerPoint I have a guess how big Africa is activity at the beginning where I let students guess how big Africa really is. This lets me explain to them our disproportionate ideas about the continent and the fallacy of some maps.
