PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

If you teach about the geography of Africa, Australia, and South America in your middle school or high school social studies classes and would like your students to become familiar with the names of the countries/states/territories as well as give them some practice with latitude and longitude then this bundle might be just what you are looking for.

Each bundle within the bundle is also sold separately:

Africa Bundle of Country Flash Cards and Latitude and Longitude Puzzle

Australia Bundle of States/Territories Flash Cards & Latitude and Longitude Puzzle
South America Bundle of Country Flash Cards & Latitude and Longitude Puzzle

Flashcards
Included in these sets are three different choices of flash cards for your students.

Option 1 - Print the set of political maps that have an individual country shaded in with red colored pencil and the name of the country on the back. This option is 30 pages for Africa, 4 for Australia, and 8 for South America that would be printed back to back and students can cut them out and use them right away. I prefer to print on cardstock so the name isn't visible through the paper.

Option 2 - Print the political maps that have an individual country name on the back but don't have any of the countries shaded in. This is also 30 pages for Africa, 4 for Australia, and 8 for South America that would also be printed back to back. Again the preference is to print on cardstock, and your students would use an atlas to locate where the countries are and shade them in on their own.

Option 3 - Print the political maps that don't have names on the back. These maps are on 15 pages for Africa, 2 for Australia, and 4 for South America and do not get printed back to back since students would have to shade the countries in on their own as well as write the name of the country on the back.

I've found that many students enjoy practicing flash cards like this over the plethora of online country identification games. The reason being is that students can make two piles as they practice identifying the countries. One stack are the ones they've correctly identified as they go through them and the other stack are the ones they still need more practice with.

The 57 countries included for Africa, the 8 states/territories for Australia, and the 15 countries included for South America are in accordance with the 2014 CIA World Factbook.

Africa Latitude and Longitude Coordinates Puzzle
This puzzle is a set of 40 coordinates that will eventually form the shape of Africa. This is a great task for students learning latitude and longitude or as a practice for those who already know latitude and longitude. I have used this formative assessment with students for years and have found that when they know that the coordinates will eventually make a shape it helps them to see if they are using the right directions. Students will plot the coordinates one at a time, label them in numerical order, and finally connect the dots to hopefully see the outline of Africa.

Australia Latitude and Longitude Coordinates Puzzle

This is a great task for students learning latitude and longitude or as a practice for those who already know latitude and longitude. Students will plot the coordinates one at a time, label them in numerical order, and finally connect the dots to hopefully see the outline of Australia.

South America Latitude and Longitude Coordinates Puzzle
