This resource includes 12 different teacher-created Common Core Africa Document Based Question (DBQs) files that contain 363 questions that reference primary and secondary sources such as political cartoons, graphs, tables, pictures, and excerpts of informational texts. The focus of the DBQs in this unit is on Sub-Saharan Africa including Kenya, Nigeria, South Sudan, and South Africa most specifically. These resources help students to become more critical readers of informational texts and resources and teachers students to evaluate resources for information. Each DBQ has the Literacy Standards for Writing in History/Social Studies Common Core alignment next to it so that you will be able to help students make connections between social studies and their literacy standards. The zipped folder includes 12 files that explore critical African topics including:
