Product Description
OBJECTIVE:
To provide students with an overview of Africa’s physical features, natural resources, climate, culture, economy, and history.

TIME:
1 class period

The activity involves class members in four fun PASSWORD games that are played using names, terms, and other facts given in 25 descriptions about Africa’s physical features, natural resources, climate, culture, economy, and history.

One student is chosen to keep score on the board. The remainder of the class is divided into two teams. A volunteer from each team is picked to give clues to their teammates using certain guidelines. These “captains” will stand on each side of the teacher’s desk. The teacher points to a word, name, or term in descriptions 1-7 (Game 1). Only the two captains can see the answer. Team members will try to guess the word, name, or term.

Play begins when the captain of Team 1 gives a clue. Teammates who think they know the answer should raise their hand. The captain will call on one person. If their answer is correct, Team 1 gets 10 points. If the answer is incorrect, the captain of Team 2 gives a clue. A correct answer is now worth only 9 points. Each time a wrong answer is given, the other side takes its turn, with the point value one less than before. Students write down the clues on a game form on the third lesson page as they are given during the game.

Complete game rules are provided on the lesson pages.

The lesson concludes with a crossword puzzle with information from the same descriptions used during the game.

Easy-to-follow Teacher Instructions and answer key included.
