Product Description
Ari is a young Black girl with wild and naturally curly
hair. She is suddenly uprooted from her beloved hometown
of Chicago and moved across the country to hot and sunny
Arizona—shortly after her tenth birthday. As she tried to
embrace her new life, Ari began encountering challenges that she
never imagined she would have to deal with back
home—in Chicago. She learned how to adjust to a new way
of life, make new friends, and successfully attend a new school far away
from her friends and family, whom she loved dearly. No day
was ever the same, and Ari soon learned the move to Arizona
would provide her with lessons in self-esteem, pride,
tolerance, and self-acceptance as a young Black girl in an
extremely different environment.
