This lesson plan examines racism and lynchings that occurred in America in the 1920s. The focus of this lesson plan is the Duluth Lynching of 1920 through the use of a Minnesota Historical Society website. The webquest includes 18 questions and a teacher answer sheet.
Objectives: Students will use the webquest activity to gain basic background knowledge on the Duluth Lynching.
Students will read secondary and primary sources from the Minnesota Historical Society website on the Duluth Lynching.
After the webquest activity, the teacher can lead students through a discussion or mock trial that relates to:
The events of the Duluth Lynching
Civics and Justice
Racism in the late 19th and early 20th century
A link to a video on the Duluth Lynching is included.
An answer sheet is included for the teacher
