African American History Month is approaching! I decided I wanted to teach my students about African American History, but I wanted to provide a more modern and relevant approach for my students; featuring more recent African American role-models that they can actually relate to.
For this reason, this mini-unit includes lessons about famous African Americans Heroes from the late 20th and the 21st century. This unit includes:
Due to the multiple levels in my classroom, I also differentiated this mini unit to work for all of my students.
For my higher functioning students, I will have them complete the passage, comprehension questions, Venn Diagram, and summary writing.
For my middle functioning students, we will read the passages together, or I will read it to them, and they will then complete the Venn Diagrams by copying facts from the story, and will complete the "Name That Person" sheets.
For my low functioning students, they will complete the simple activity mini-booklet. They will learn a couple of simple facts about the person and then circle a picture related to that person.
See the preview for an example of everything included! Read this blog post for even more information and details on this unit!
Other than the mini-booklet, this resource is no prep; just print and use! Teach your students about famous and modern day well-known African Americans that they can relate to from the late 20th and the 21st century.
