This is an African American Scale Factor Math Activity. I created this to teach during the month of February for African American History Month. It is perfect because it fits in my curriculum and it talk about Washington DC (which our students travel to at the end of the school year). The students research Martin Luther King Jr. and President Lincoln. Then investigate the height of Martin Luther King Jr. and President Abraham Lincoln and the height of their memorials. Then students find the scale factor of both. Then students create a scale factor for themselves. They measure their height in standing and sitting position. They create their own scale factor and determine the size of their Memorial. Then students write about what they would be known for and their famous quote.
