This packet includes a Power Point presentation of 22 African-American Scientists and Inventors. It was used during Black History Month (February). I also have used it in recognition of Martin Luther King Day in January. It was used with grades 9 through 12, but I’m sure it would be appropriate for middle school students also.
There is available a worksheet that goes along with the presentation. Instead of the students concentrating on taking notes, they can use the fill-in worksheet.
After the presentation I lead a discussion on the variety of persons discussed. As a follow-up I have had the students choose one of the scientists or inventors to do a more in depth report on. This could be either oral or written.
