The Apple Tree Room

Introduce your students to the diversity of habitats in Africa! In this unit, students study and write about African animals and their habitats. The emphasis is on the process of researching and writing about animals.

Guide less experienced writers through the process of researching and recording facts, and then writing an informative paragraph about each animal. More experienced writers can conduct the research independently to complete the informative writing process.

Two versions of writing pages are included to meet the needs of your writers—3 widely spaced lines for developing writers (kindergarten/beginning first) and 3 thinner space lines for more experienced writers (first/beginning second). Single spaced blank pages (no animal clip art) are also provided.

At the end of the unit, students will collect their research and writing, and turn it into a book.

I’ve included resources to study the following animals for you to choose from:

•bush baby

•fennec fox
