Note: moulds are not available with this project- you will need to find your own.
The project entails students studying of African masks and how to work with paper mache. The students can either make a mask that represents those that they are studying, or they can make a mask that can be worn for a special event in their lives. The students will then paste layers of newspaper strips over the plastic molds and once they are thick enough, will attach the facial features. The dry masks will be painted with patterns and will have raffia attached to make hair or a bearded fringe and maybe feathers to add interest.
You get the project outline, two marking rubrics, a journal page, and information on the elements and/or principle of design being studied as well as any pertinent information based on the theme.
