Culminating project to go with the story “After Twenty Years” by O. Henry. In this project, students will interview a family member (or other older person) about a long-separated relationship. After the interview, students can complete a narrative writing activity or a multimedia project—rubrics included for both.
Interview Activity Teacher Overview-- includes copy of student checklist along with notes for the teacher for related discussion or possible additional instruction
Interview Activity Student Checklist-- help keep students on track through the steps of the project
Interview Questions-- includes 5 pre-made questions relating to the interviewee and the friendship they once had. Also has three spots for Student Choice questions. Helps students practice thinking of interview questions. And questions can be tentatively brainstormed before hand in class, plus students can fill in questions during the interview if they have a question that arises
Interview Project: Narrative Writing Student Printable with Rubric-- option for a narrative writing. Can be provided alongside the Multimedia for student choice or assigned independently. Includes requirement for one related picture (ideally a photo of the interviewee and friend, or similar, but allows other choices.)
Interview Project: Multimedia Project Student Printable with Rubric-- option for a multimedia project. Can be provided alongside the Narrative Writing for student choice or assigned interdependently.
Interview Project Self-Reflection-- good wrap up for the Interview Project. Can be done instead of the projects if time is short and has students reflect on what they learned in the interview plus relate it to the story.
