After You is the sequel to be read after viewing the film Me Before You and discussing the issue of assisted suicide. One of the main themes of the book is how to move on after losing the person you loved and build a life worth living.....an issue for teens as well as adults. While Louisa Clark is the main character in this book I found the secondary character, Lily, a very difficult teen like many of the troubled youth in our classrooms today, fascinating. She has a step parent she despises, an indifferent mother, and friends who abandon her. Lily, like so many youth today succumb to bad decisions that could end up on social media and destroy her. Louisa, who has zero parenting skills but knows how to empathize and love, takes Lily under her wing. Louisa also meets an ambulance driver, Sam, who figures significantly into the decisions she must ultimately make regarding her future. This book will trigger a lively discussion of issues relevant to all teens today! The unit of study has a study guide, essay/discussion topics as well as a test and answer key.
