This is a movie guide for the History Channel's video "Aftershock: Beyond the Civil War." This film is about 90 minutes long but does a fantastic job of demonstrating the political and social upheaval of Reconstruction in the south. I use this film to spark discussion of the period. It is a little "gritty" at times and racial slurs are expressed in the context of actors reading primary sources. My students love watching this one every semester. You can find the DVD on Amazon or from the History Channel website.
