In most elementary schools in my district, students in grades 4 - 6 are issued agenda books. They are also sometimes called day planners. Students record homework assignments and other important events in their agenda books. I like to evaluate how well they are using their agenda books. Once a week I do an "agenda book check." I move from student to student, checking to see if they have been recording homework, and whether they are having a parent/guardian initial it each day. When it comes time for report cards, I can easily see how well a student has been doing.
