Animated Step-by-Steps® are animated PowerPoints designed to address literacy, language, AAC and a host of academic goals. Each page includes a series of animations. Read the text up to the star … click … and see an animation of what you just read.
There are three versions of each resource. This is the Picture Communication Symbol Version (Tobii/Dynavox). Please note in symbol-supported versions the symbols appear as a group AFTER all the page animations have been activated. This strategy a 'literacy first' agenda, i.e., the picture symbols do not ‘steal’ attention from the literacy agenda. It is recommended that you read the text together then activate the ‘song button’ to ‘re-read’ the page together while pointing to the picture symbols.
Aiken Drum is a traditional song that frequently appears in preschool circle time routines. I’ve tried to design this version in a way that simplifies concepts. For example Aiken Drum has a drum hat to further reinforce his name and the ladle that he play has strings similar to a guitar. When his name is announced it is preceded by a drum roll.
This resource can be displayed on the 'big screen' (interactive whiteboard, large screen TV using Apple TV) or the 'small screen' (computer monitor, iPad/Android tablet using the free Microsoft PowerPoint app). When using an interactive whiteboard I usually use a remote switch to allow students to share the task of activating the animations without having to approach the board. Please visit the Animated Step-by-Steps blog for further information on the creative use of these educational resources. http://animatedstepbysteps.blogspot.com
