This is a 300 slide PowerPoint presentation with built-in class notes (red slides), challenge questions with answers, built-in review opportunities, activities, video links, skits, two page homework, notes, and much more.
This PowerPoint begins describing that air pollution can be global (climate change / ozone), Regional (Acid Rain), Local (Smog, Urban Heat) over a series of slides all with images. Everything is highly visual. I always take a step by step approach to PowerPoint with only one point of focus per slide. Sources of natural and unnatural air pollution are then covered. Special focus is put on carbon monoxide and ways to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) are addressed and open burning laws etc. CFC's, NH3, odors and radioactive fallout with a brief segment about the Chernobly disaster wrap the human causes of air pollution. Particulate matter is then addressed and an activity that has students use a vacuum cleaner and some tissues to gather air quality samples is provided. Simulated data with some visuals of our school using digital images gathered from the microscope are included if you cannot perform the activity. (Our gym closet was really dusty). The Ozone Layer is introduced and several students volunteers are asked to perform a skit about the ozone layer. The characters are introduced and then each slide has a speaking role. Choosing the right students for the skit is critical for the teacher. Their are major and minor roles but choosing strong readers is necessary for the skit to be successful. Everything is described in the PowerPoint. The Ozone Layer and CFC's are then reviewed in a step by step process with visuals. Some skin cancer is shown and then a step by step sequence of slides on how to avoid skin cancer is shown. Students learn the ABCDE's of skin cancer and are then challenged to identify the skin mole that may be cancerous from the ordinary mole. How to avoid skin cancer is shown in a step by step sequence of slides. A guess the hidden picture beneath the boxes concludes the PowerPoint where each slides remove shapes blocking the picture beneath. Students get one guess to try and describe the picture. Students try and be the first one to guess correctly. A hidden box game where shapes are removed slowly from a picture beneath concludes this PowerPoint. This is a really neat PowerPoint that covers a lot about air quality but is fun throughout. This PowerPoint includes critical notes (Red Slides), exciting visuals, challenge questions, activities with directions and more. Text is usually placed at the top of the slide so it can be read from all angles of a classroom. Color coded slides, as well as a shade technique is used to increase student focus and allows the teacher to control the pace of the lesson. These PowerPoints are meant to be as interactive as possible and ask many questions, provides built in review opportunities, explain directions to activities, and much more. Transition effects are never used.
Please visit my other posting on TpT called the Weather and Climate Unit which includes this PowerPoint within the 2500+ slide PowerPoint roadmap, 14 page bundled homework / assessment, 5 page modified assessment, detailed answer keys, and 19 pages of unit notes for students who may require assistance that chronologically follow the PowerPoint slideshow.
