This is an 8th grade Science Unit I created in my last year of college. It is on the human impacts on our air quality. It allows students to explore what air pollution is, causes, solutions, it includes youtube videos, and an article the students will read to better understand human impact on this. It is a unit that prepares the students for a project in which they have to research a company that pollutes our air quality. Then they must find a solution to the problem and present it to a "committee" (the teacher). The unit plan includes all the handouts for the unit, check points, rubrics for the final project, a self assessment sheet for the students to complete after the unit and the actual lesson plans so you know what to teach and the expected time frame for teaching. If you buy this item look for the "Air Pollution Powerpoint". That product is free (and useful for anyone who buys this unit) and was made for this unit plan. It is one of the tools you use for the first lesson of this unit. It reviews the basics of air pollution, vocabulary, and has a sample company and solution so the students have an example to reference when completing their projects.
I've incorporated the corresponding Next Generation Science Standard - NGSS-MS.ESS- Human Impacts. Students will explore how human activities change the planet, more specifically how these activities affect the air quality. Students will use models/representations to explain how human activities significantly impact the atmosphere.
