This activity was created based on the story Akiak in the Houghton Mifflin reading series. Story Dots were created to foster independence with grade level text. The activities work on extending the students thinking about the story. There are many different ways to have students complete their story dots. Depending on the teacher, students can roll a dice to find out which story dot work, teachers can assign a specific activity, or teachers can give students the option of which activities to complete by a certain date. I have tried all three techniques and find the last idea to work best in my classroom.
