This product is a 100 slide companion guide to the novel Al Capon Does My Shirts by Jennifer Choldenko. I have included some brief historical information. This resource can be used in a variety of ways. Here are the ways I have used it in the past.
There are vocabulary words for each chapter. Each vocabulary slide shows a visual, the definition of the word, and a quotation from the book using the word. There are also comprehension questions to accompany each chapter.
I preview each chapter before reading by going through the PowerPoint slides. Students can record the vocabulary words, and the definitions in a notebook. I ask my students to record the words. Later, I ask them to write the definition in their own words, and to write the word in a sentence. This could also be given as homework.
At the end of the reading period I will assign my students questions in a variety of ways. Sometimes they work on questions individually, sometimes each group works on a different question, sometimes we use the questions as discussion questions to wrap up the reading or review the reading from the day before. Occasionally I will assign a question for homework.
My students use Language Arts notebooks to record the vocabulary words and questions. This way they can use the same notebook for multiple books.
I hope you find this as useful as I do! Please let me know how this worked for you!
