Product Description
This journal goes along with my Arabian Nights Novel Study and includes 20 prompts for your students to explore. As students read through the classic novel, they are able to reflect on literary elements and make connections to their own lives. Through the full novel study, students will practice cause and effect, summarizing, characterization, imagery, compare/contrast, sequence of events, setting, theme, figurative language, inference, prediction and more! Easy to follow and NO PREP!!

Directions:

There are 2 journals included for each chapter. The Jump-Start Journal is intended for students to complete before they read the text. These journal entries allow students to compare/contrast the novel with their own lives. The connections they make will help students comprehend the chapter on a deeper level as well as recall the events more effectively. They will also allow students to make predictions about what is to come in the chapter. The second journal is the Sign-off Journal. Unlike the Jump-Start Journal, this second version is intended to be completed after students finish the chapter. These entries will allow students to reflect on the plot, characters, author purpose, etc.

After finishing this packet, students will have written about the Arabian Nights 20 times! This will greatly improve their retention of the novel and their enjoyment of its themes. Enjoy!

BONUS!! Now you will also receive a PowerPoint with each prompt! Students can choose to follow along in their journals or use the visual aid on the screen!

The novel I used is the Classic Starts abridged version. If you use a different version, please be aware that prompts for the following tales are included:
Chapter 1: The Tale of the Merchant
Chapter 2: The Story of the Fisherman
Chapter 3: The Porter's Tale
Chapter 4: The First Dervish's Tale
Chapter 5: The Second Dervish's Tale
Chapter 6: The Third Dervish's Tale
Chapter 7: The Tale of Sinbad the Sailor and Sinbad the Porter
Chapter 8: The Tale of Aladdin
Chapter 9: The Tale of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves
Epilogue
