This a comprehension unit that focuses on the use of context clues to define new vocabulary words, predicting, visualizing, comprehension strategies.identifying the main idea, comparing and contrasting, and use of text evidence. It is complete with pre-reading graphic organizers, learning goals and scales, a post reading suggested video, and a comprehension assessment (multiple choice, T/F, and short answer) with an answer key. This unit requires the reading passage, Way To Go, Einstein from the Nonfiction Comprehension Cliffhangers book by Tom Conklin. This is a great unit for intermediate and middle school students to teach reading and reinforce comprehension strategies.
This lesson displays nicely on interactive whiteboards for whole group instruction, tablets and iPads for small group lessons, and speech teletherapy platforms for comprehensive language and literacy sessions. It can be used in both your literacy and science centers.
