Full unit of assignments for ATOD, automatically aligned with NC Standards. Can easily be edited and related to any state's standards. This is a full choice menu of assignments at varying levels that are meant to cover the entire unit. Choice assignments are excellent for promoting independence, self-motivated learning, and making life easier for YOU!
How I Use the Choice Menu: I teach short mini-lessons over a three-four week period related to ATOD, and allow students to work on their choice menus for the remainder of the period. These mini-lessons typically include graded notes, which are included in the table of contents as an example of how to incorporate notes for grades with the unit, which is excellent if you are an AVID school that requires Cornell Notes.
Menu Explained: Students will review different leveled assignments to choose and complete at independent working times. Each assignment is valued differently, and students must complete enough assignments to earn the maximum score. There are 3 levels: the first one is simple recall, the second level encourages creation of a product, and the third level is a written essay.
Benefits of the menu: Choice menus last the entire unit and students ALWAYS have something to work on. Easy to differentiate. You always have a substitute plan in place - just allow students to work on their menus for the entire class period. Easy to grade (instant) and you can establish due dates for each level to ensure student pacing. This provides constant feedback. The flexibility is endless!
