The topic of the assignment is the Internet phenomenom, #AlexFromTarget (available for viewing here - http;//tinyurl.com/ellenandalex). This is an excellent assignment for teaching students how to use text-based evidence or how to complete a Document Based Question (DBQ). The following items are included:

Introduction - This documents introduces students to the story of Alex Lee, the teenager who rose to Internet super-stardom as a result of the #AlexFromTarget hashtag. It also provides directions and sample claims for students to review.

Evidence Documents - Included are three documents of varying types that students will read and analyze for evidence of how Alex Lee's life was effected as a result of the #AlexFromTarget hashtag. The sources of these documents include: A news article from The New York Times, interview transcript from The Ellen Show, and select highlights from a Twitter search for #AlexFromTarget.

Notes Matrix - This worksheet will help students organize information from each of the three documents in preparation of the final written assignment.
