This a comprehensive literacy and language unit that focuses on using context clues to define new vocabulary words, comprehension strategies of successful readers, visualizing, identifying the main idea, use of text evidence, and demonstrating understanding by answering comprehension questions at the end. The unit requires the reading passage, The Mystery of the Messy Desk from the Nonfiction Comprehension Cliffhangers book by Tom Conklin.
This is a great unit for intermediate and middle school students to teach and practice reading comprehension strategies. It is complete with graphic organizers, learning goals and scales, and an assessment with an answer key. The slides display nicely on smartboards during whole group instruction, tablets during small group, speech teletherapy platforms, or they can be printed for use in literacy and/or science centers.
Be creative and happy teaching! Thank you for shopping in my store and stay tuned for more intermediate lessons.
