Iconic short essay by Alexie. Still under copyright, but exists in most anthologies. Extremely strong for teaching syntax. The quiz is typical of my style and product. It can be used both as an actual evaluation or as a spur to discussion of the rhetorical tools. I use them as both, by giving students many quizzes and evaluating them on improvement rather than a simple total of questions correct. This approach requires a willingness to engage in some litigation over the questions. The document can be modified for either purpose easily. I assume the students will use an open text that has been extensively annotated but not 'gone over.'
