Product Description

I use Partner Problems a lot in my classes to review for a variety of topics. The students like them because they can work with a Partner, and because I give a little bit of extra credit to the first three pairs that solve all their problems correctly. This reviews solving quadratic equations (all can be factored), knowing that the solutions are x-intercepts, finding the vertex, graphing the parabola, and finding the equation of the quadratic given a graph or the x-intercepts.

Students are "paired up" – working with the student next to them. On this review, each of the problems requires the same type of work. For instance, #1 (on worksheet A), and #A (on worksheet B) both give the students a quadratic equation to use to find the x-intercepts, vertex, and to graph – BUT, they have different equations to work with. The “Partners” can help each other with the work, but can’t copy each other because the problems are actually different.

An answer key and instructions are included.

Common Core Standard A-REI 4b

4b. Solve quadratic equations by inspection (e.g., for x2 = 49), taking square roots, completing the square, the quadratic formula, and factoring, as appropriate to the initial form of the equation. Recognize when the quadratic formula gives complex solutions and write them as a ± bi for real numbers a and b.

CA Standard for Algebra 1

14.0 Students solve a quadratic equation by factoring or completing the square.

20.0 Students use the quadratic formula to find the roots of a second-degree polynomial and to solve quadratic equations.
