Product Description
This PowerPoint lesson is designed to go with Section 11.5 of the Prentice Hall CA Algebra 1 Textbook. It shows the steps for solving a rational equation by finding the LCD, then multiplying each term in the equation by the LCD.

There is a video in the lesson which makes it great to use on days when you have a substitute teacher in your classroom, or for home teaching, or so you can take roll while the lesson continues.

This is the sixth lesson in my Unit on Rational Expressions & Equations. The others are listed here:

Common Core Standards
A-REI 2. Solve simple rational and radical equations in one variable, and give examples showing how extraneous solutions may arise.
A-APR 7. Understand that rational expressions form a system analogous to the rational numbers, closed under addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by a nonzero rational expression; add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions.

Previous California Standards for Algebra 1:
12.0 Students simplify fractions with polynomials in the numerator and denominator by factoring both and reducing them to the lowest terms.
13.0 Students add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions and functions. Students solve both computationally and conceptually challenging problems by using these techniques.
