This is a collection of seven resources (which have also been listed as individual resources) that are useful when learning the basic skills of simplifying, expanding, factorising, solving, rearranging, substitution...
The first resource is a simple match-up sheet, it is useful for review work at the beginning of this topic.
The next three activities are flash cards (flip cards) involving the same skills, the problems become increasingly more challenging. When printing, press Print on Both Sides. Flip on long edge.
The next two resources are very good for critical thinking. The students firstly need to interpret the instructions by matching them up with the correct types of problem, then they are to complete the exercises. The answers are supplied.
The final resource is a powerpoint with 4 simple Noughts and Crosses games on it. It is set up to play with the whole class (divide the class in half first). My classes enjoy this. There are more instructions on the resource itself.
Most of these resources are best attacked by cutting out the tiles and manipulating them.
