These packets are what I use to help my Algebra 1 students review and prepare for the End of Course Assessment. Each packet contains a series roughly 15-20 questions from of the 5 core units that are tested on the Indiana ECA.
The review sheets cover the following topics:
- Solving Linear Equations and Inequalities
- Graphing and Interpreting Linear and Non-Linear Relations
- Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
- Quadratics and Radical Equations
I pass out one packet (on Fridays) per week for six weeks.
The students work on the sheet outside of class, and I let them begin asking questions on Wednesday. Typically, I do not answer their questions, but I do point them in the right direction. For example, if a student says, "I do not understand #3," I might respond "try using the slope formula and the point-slope formula to answer this question").
We grade the sheet on Friday. I also add some of the questions to a review section on our tests.
I find that this makes an effective review of our core content. Since the students know that the questions will show up (again) on their chapter tests, they are encourage to continue reviewing the material after it is graded.
