This will make your students successful at solving word problems! I created this graphic organizer to help my Algebra I students set up two-step equations from word problems. Included in the document are eight word problems and a worked key using the graphic organizer. I did very little with using equations to solve word problems before giving this to my students and all of my students were successful at solving the majority of the problems independently, even the ones with fractions! The best way to use this would be at the beginning the word problems section of a linear equations unit or as an intervention for students who struggle with word problems. All of the word problems will be solved using a two-step equation. I solved one of the eight problems with my students to provide them with directions on how to use the template and they were able to work independently for the next 45 minutes. This is well worth your class time!
