This set of cards of twenty-five task cards can be used to help students review horizontal and vertical shifts and horizontal and vertical stretching while using function notation.
Six functions have been used through the set of task cards:
• y = x
• y = x2
• y = x3
• y = cube root of x
• y = square root of x
• y = |x|
Directions have been included on how to use the graphing calculator to help the students complete some of the transformations described on the task cards.
Many of the task cards ask students to describe
• the domain and range for the original function and
• domain and range of the transformed function.
Students are also asked to write the algebraic form for the translated function.
Each student should receive a recording sheet where they will record the task card number and their solution to the problem on that card.
There are several ways you can sort the cards.
• Since there are six functions you could group the cards by the function. This would give you six groups.
• You could sort the cards by the type of transformation described on the cards.
In my store you will find the set “Transformation Task Cards” which has the same questions as this set, but there are no QR codes on each card. The only way to confirm the solution is to check with the solution key.
