I created this unit from a little blurb I found at the end of a homework assignment in the book. They discussed the use of matrices and how it can be linked with cryptology. From there this project was created. Over the past several years, I have redesigned it and even presented it at many local and state math in-services. I have seen it used in both Algebra I and Algebra II classes and even Precalculus classes. (depending on your school's curriculum).

This lesson unit includes two versions of a quiz (and key) covering basic matrix operations (add, subtract, scalar multiplication, matrix multiplication, inverses). In addition, I've included the PowerPoint presentation I used at the in-services to explain the project. This PowerPoint is extremely detailed and will explain from start to finish how the project should be completed. Finally, I have the detailed project requirements in both Word and HTML form (ready for the web). The project includes a writing component, an online internet component, and even an inter-class competition component. I know you will be pleased with this unit!
