Algebra Christmas Writing Prompts: Fun Writing in Algebra Class!
I always found that some students struggle when given too broad of a writing topic (“write about anything you want”), so I decided to give them a little creative jump start with writing prompts! While most of these prompts are meant to be used around Christmas, there are a few that could be used any time during the winter, just as a story starter or something similar.
There are eight writing prompts total. I have included a traditional writing format as well as a comic strip format for each prompt. This allows you to appeal to the artists in your class as well as the writers – get more students engaged in the assignment! The prompts for the comic strip formats may vary slightly simply due to space constraints, but the vocabulary sets are the same for corresponding prompts.
Many of the prompts share at least some of the vocabulary words, but they do all differ slightly. I have students choose 10 of the given vocabulary words to use in their story. Most prompts have about 22 or so words to choose from, so lots of choices.
This is a great activity to use on those last few days when you are tired, they are fidgety, and you don't want to start something new!
