This sprint includes various problems finding slope from two points. Answers include positive, negative, zero, and undefined slopes. Problems are increasing in difficulty, with Sprint 5B being more difficult than 5A. There are two sets (A and B) of 20 problems. Please note that my sprints do not contain as many patterns as seen in those for earlier grades.
Directions for a Sprint: Give students exactly one minute to complete the exercises on one side of the handout. The goal is fluency so students should complete as many as possible and the goal is therefore not to finish the entire sheet. If "Jane" gets the first 10 questions right, but #11 is wrong, she receives a 10/20. This score is just for personal assessment. Provide students with all answers and then turn the page. When the backside is completed, "Jane" should aim to get more than 10 correct without a mistake. The goal is again, enhanced fluency rather than completion.
PLEASE NOTE: When I performed this sprint with my class, I gave them more time. I would recommend 90-120 seconds for each side of the handout, depending on the abilities of the class. I also required students to simplify the slope, if applicable.
