“Algebra Easy as Pi” contains more than 600 pages of activities that were custom-written and tailored to the needs of students. Each activity is all-inclusive, with a tour guide that tells a story, explains vocabulary and concepts, asks questions to help you make sense of it, and also multiple choice questions to help with test preparation. There is a specific focus on these common core concepts: rational number concepts and computation, writing and solving equations, function concepts, study of linear and quadratic functions.
And if you still have trouble, I have included a page by page answer key to each and every activity! There are seven chapters, including assessments and project guide. Each book is print on demand, printed right at my home.
This fun, filled guide to algebra is composed of seven chapters. I, Fantastic Fred, am going to take a few minutes to introduce you to your tour guides in each chapter.
Let’s start with Chapter One: You have Clever Chloe; she is going to help you with Properties of Real Numbers. Energetic Eddie is the master of expressions. Ecstatic Ellen is excited about equations. Terrific Tom and Goofy Greg are working together to help you with systems of equations. Money Mike is going to help you with graphing equations.
In Chapter Two, you have Fantastic Fred (that’s me) to guide you through functions. Fearless Franklin is amazing with properties of functions. Proper Pauline is the master of Parent Functions. Kinetic Kenny is krazy about Quadratics!
Silly Sam is the star of Chapter Three. He has the best way to teach you about algebraic patterns by just counting blocks! How cool is that! Fabulous Felicia can’t wait to help you with slope and the y-intercept.
In Chapter Four, you are introduced to Zealous Zoey who gets down with exponents. Powerful Peter is all about those polynomials. Liberal Lidia holds your hand through the degree of polynomials. Tenacious Tonya loves the Distributive Property, while Victorious Victor helps you to triumph over multiplying polynomials. Bubbly Bria helps you factor using Tic-Tac-Toe!
Awesome Amber is amazing with functional relationships, and Natural NaKenya is the expert with quadratic functions. Dynamic Danny gets down with graphing these functions. Creative Crystal is the master of solving quadratic functions.
Now, to help with assess your knowledge of all this great information, you have Amazing Alfred, Brilliant Bobby and Magnificent Maggie.
Before you know it, you will be a math whiz and telling all your friends about how fun algebra is! How cool is that!
Yes, it was a lot of work but it is well worth it because each of these activities has been tried and tested by students and worked because I took the time to ask: What did you learn today? What did you like about the activity? Did the activity help you understand the concept? If not, what can be done to make it better?
This book is a collection of activities that were customized to help teachers show and model algebra topics in a fun, easy to understand way that makes sense to all students, regardless of background. To even the playing field is to content that is accessible to all students, everyday that is not overwhelming or intimidating to teachers to present.
