This unit includes nine lessons that teach students to differentiate between an expression and an equation They will translate phrases into numerical expressions and sentences into written algebraic equations. Students will evaluate expressions and use variables and variable expressions to describe relationships between quantities. At the conclusion of this unit students will be able to translate and solve real-life problems into addition, subtraction, multiplication, division equations. Students will use the inverse operation to change two-step equations into one-step equations and solve by using the appropriate Property of Equality. Students will solve real-life problems by converting units of measure to another units of measure. STUDENT WORKSHEETS, an EDUCATOR GUIDE, and a UNIT WRAP UP for assessing student performance after completing this unit are included.
