In this activity, students practice factoring trinomials and using FOIL to multiply two binomials together. Trinomials in this activity have coefficients of one and coefficients other than one. Students should also be familiar with factoring special cases – perfect square trinomials and differences of squares.
The activity begins with all students being given a task card. The odd numbered hearts will have a trinomial to be factored, and the even numbered hearts will have two binomials to be multiplied together.
Students take a moment to either factor or use FOIL. Then they must search the room for their match.
It may be nice for the teacher to provide an Easter treat for the groups that match correctly : )
There are enough cards for 30 students to participate in this activity at a time. The teacher can add or subtract cards as necessary for the number of students in class. A blank task card template is provided.
ABSENT STUDENT? I have also included a worksheet that could be used for a student who is absent for this activity. This worksheet contains the same 30 problems that are part of this activity.
An answer key is provided.
