Solving 1, 2, and Multi-Step Equations Tic Tac Toe:
Students will play Tic Tac Toe in partners as they solve 1, 2, and multi-step equations. There are 6 boards that get progressively more difficult. *Answer key included!
Directions: There are 6 boards and they get progressively more difficult with Board A being the easiest and Board F being the most challenging. Boards A and B are one-step equations, C and D are two-step equations, and E and F are multi-step equations. You can have your students begin with A and work their way to the F-board. Put the students in partners – one student is Xs and one is Os. One student will start wherever they want on the board and correctly solve the problem in order to place their X or O on that box. The other student should also solve the problem as a way to check the first student’s answer and to steal the box if the first student gets it wrong. The students should take turns as they work through the game until one student has three in a row. Be ready with the answer key in case any group cannot decide on an answer.Once a pair is done with one game, have them bring their board with the solutions to you so you can check their answers before they move onto the next board.
My students loved this game as a way to review solving equations!
